Ghanaian entrepreneur and Guinness World Record contender Afua Asantewaa has revealed that the only support she received from a government official during her first sing-a-thon attempt was medicine for her sore throat. In an interview with Nana Romeo, shared on Instagram on March 13, 2025, Asantewaa dismissed claims that she received cars and an apartment from the previous government, stating that the only gesture came from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Afua Asantewaa clarified that during her sing-a-thon attempt, Dr. Bawumia visited her and provided medicine to help soothe her throat. “I didn’t receive anything from the government. The only thing I got was medicine to heal my throat, and that was from the former vice president,” she said.
Asantewaa also addressed rumors about gifts and financial support she allegedly received during her record-breaking attempt. She explained that while she was informed about contributions from individuals and organizations, most of the gifts never reached her.
“I am told people gave gifts and cash. However, I would be lying if I said I received them. Moreover, I was working with a team, so most of these things went through them. Also, some people in T-shirts had my name. I don’t even have a list that contains the names of people who supported me financially,” she stated.
