The long-standing debate over which African city hosts the best parties may have taken an unexpected turn, as Accra, Ghana, delivered what many are calling the party of the decade.
For years, Lagos, Nigeria, has been regarded as the epicenter of nightlife and high-profile celebrations, known for its extravagant displays of affluence, elite social circles, and electrifying entertainment. However, following the recent 40th birthday celebration of Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii-Armah Quaye, some Lagosians are reconsidering their claim to the throne.
Among those left in awe was Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur, Toke Makinwa, who not only attended but also hosted the star-studded event at Independence Square in Accra.
In a social media post following the celebration, Makinwa admitted that Accra had exceeded her expectations, writing:
“Touched down in Accra to host #RNAQ40 last night… I thought we knew how to party in Lagos, but y’all did a thing in Accra! The warm welcome, as always, is everything! Me do wo Ghana!”
The guest list read like a who’s who of Africa’s entertainment industry, with more than 20 top Nigerian celebrities flying in to join the festivities. Among the notable names in attendance were:Davido, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo, Cubana Chief Priest, Mofe Damijo, Swanky Jerry, Neo Akpofure, Waje, Enioluwa
Adding to the night’s allure was Tanzanian music sensation Diamond Platnumz, whose electrifying performance kept the energy levels soaring.
With an estimated 2,000 guests in attendance, the event featured:
* Performances from some of Africa’s biggest stars
*Opulent displays of wealth and luxury
* A fleet of high-end cars on display
* Four distinct sections designed to enhance the experience
The sheer scale of the event has since garnered international attention, with many describing it as “Africa’s most talked-about party in recent years.”
The success of Richard Nii-Armah Quaye’s milestone celebration has reignited conversations about Accra’s growing reputation as a premier destination for elite social events. With world-class venues, a booming nightlife scene, and an ever-expanding list of high-profile gatherings, Ghana’s capital is proving to be a force to reckon with in Africa’s entertainment landscape.
