Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his heartfelt condolences to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Adum, the bustling commercial hub of the Ashanti Region. The inferno, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, ravaged multiple shops and properties, inflicting significant losses on business owners.
During a visit to the disaster site on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Bawumia described the incident as tragic and assured the victims of his unwavering support. He was joined by former government officials and New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders, who collectively offered words of encouragement to the distressed traders.
To aid in recovery efforts, the Vice President announced a donation of GHS200,000 in financial assistance and 1,000 bags of cement to help rebuild the affected businesses. He stressed the need for swift intervention and urged relevant authorities to implement stronger safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
“This contribution is a modest step toward helping you recover. I remain committed to supporting you through this difficult period,” Dr. Bawumia assured.
Affected traders expressed appreciation for the gesture, acknowledging that the aid would go a long way in restoring their livelihoods. “We’ve suffered a huge setback, but this support renews our hope,” said one shop owner.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the community remains optimistic that lasting solutions will be put in place to protect businesses from similar disasters in the future.
