Ghanaian football legends Abedi Ayew Pele and Asamoah Gyan have been named ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship scheduled for April 21-26 at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the appointment of the two former Black Stars captains in recognition of their contributions to African football and commitment to youth development.
Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year, won the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations and led Ghana to the 1992 final. The former Olympique Marseille star remains the only Ghanaian to win the UEFA Champions League.
Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, previously served as ambassador for the tournament’s second edition. The former Sunderland striker participated in three FIFA World Cups and won AFCON silver medals in 2010 and 2015.
In their ambassadorial roles, the two legends will promote the continental schools tournament, inspire participating young players and support CAF’s youth football development initiatives across Africa.
The week-long championship will feature school teams from across the continent competing at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. CAF launched the African Schools Football Championship in 2022 to develop youth talent and promote education through sports.
