Rashid Pelpuo, who is in charge of Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, shared surprising news. After the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections, the former government led by Akufo-Addo hired 12,000 people into public sector jobs in just one week.
He also mentioned that President John Dramani Mahama has put together a special team.
This team is tasked with examining the complaints from individuals who claim they were unfairly dismissed from their positions. The aim is to investigate these concerns thoroughly.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Rashid Pelpuo stated, “The President has set up a committee to investigate all the people who are complaining of being sacked unfairly. I’m a co-chairman of that committee. We’re working very hard to get them a response.
He mentioned that the committee’s findings will guide any necessary actions.
In March, the minority members of parliament tried to initiate an investigation into last-minute dismissals, but it was blocked.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin, along with two other NPP MPs, filed a motion. They wanted Parliament to declare the dismissals unconstitutional.
However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga opposed the motion. Ayariga stated that a related case is already before the court.
First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor upheld Ayariga’s objection and rejected the motion.
Bernard Ahiafor the first Deputy Speaker stated, “Accordingly, the motion and the subsequent debate on it is stayed pending the determination of the matter by the Supreme Court.
Honourable members accordingly, the objection is sustained. The motion therefore cannot be moved”.
