In Tema, a group of young people gathered to protest at the offices of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
Their main demand was for President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a local resident as the new Mayor.
The protestors showed their anger by burning car tires and playing loud drums, creating a very intense scene to make their demand clear.
The reason for their protest comes from reports suggesting that Ebi Bright might be chosen for the Mayor’s role, even though it was earlier believed that Patience Ankamah Addo was the top candidate.
During a talk with the media, Dora Sappor, the spokesperson for this group, made it very clear that they were against Ebi Bright being considered.
“We are here with a heavy heart to register our displeasure. We are hearing that Ebi Bright is to be made the Mayor of Tema, but that is not going to happen. She was not even part of the whole process, so why are they bringing her to be the mayor? This is something we will not understand,” she stated.
Dora Sappor explained that both the young people of Tema East and their traditional leaders agreed that the Mayoral position should go to someone from their own community.
She stressed that their demand must be taken seriously and honored.
