There is an intense outrage in the community of Tema as Traditional priestesses took to the streets, draped in red cloth, to voice their objections to Ebi Bright’s appointment as Tema Mayor.
The priestesses cited concerns over Ebi Bright’s non-indigenous heritage as the basis for their opposition
In Tema, a group of traditional priestesses gathered to protest at the offices of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
Their main demand was for President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a local resident as the new Mayor.
According to one of the priestesses, Ebi Bright comes from a lineage rooted in Nigeria and has another part from the Volta region or Ewe tribe, hence making her unsuitable to lead indigenes of the town who are predominantly Gas.
She stressed that their demand must be taken seriously and honored.
