BAWUMIA: INTERNAL ATTACKS ARMED NDC’S CAMPAIGN IN 2024 ELECTION

The previous Vice President and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stated that internal conflicts within the party were a key factor in the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the start of his national Thank You Tour in Takoradi on Saturday (26 April), Dr Bawumia stressed that internal public criticism from within the party gave the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leverage during the campaign.

“Unity is key in every group endeavour, but for the 2024 elections we faced internal issues,” Dr Bawumia told supporters.

He noted that comments made by NPP members about their own party and government were seized upon by the NDC, who “played back these words by our own members against us through a series of adverts in the media.”

“They used the words against us, and if the attack is coming from your own members, you can imagine the effect,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia stated that the absence of a cohesive front significantly weakened the party’s campaign efforts and played a role in its loss.

He encouraged NPP members to place unity at the forefront before upcoming elections, cautioning that ongoing conflicts, if not addressed, would persist in undermining the party’s goals.

The Thank You Tour will have Dr. Bawumia visiting different regions, interacting with party supporters and contemplating insights from the results of the 2024 election.
