“MY APPOINTMENT IS A TOUGH CALL, BUT I’M COMMITTED TO REFORMING ECG” – Edem Agbana
Ketu North MP pledges to support major reforms in Ghana’s energy sector following board appointment at ECG.
Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has described his appointment to the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as a “tough call,” but one he is determined to take on with dedication and reform-minded focus.
In a Facebook post sighted by NKONKONSA.com Business, the newly appointed board member acknowledged the weight of the responsibility, especially at a time when Ghana’s energy sector is grappling with instability, operational inefficiencies, and public frustration.
“I am deeply honored to have been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), a strategic national asset that plays a pivotal role in powering our economy and daily lives,” Agbana wrote.
The MP also thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and assured Ghanaians that he would approach the role with diligence, transparency, and accountability.
Edem Agbana was emphatic that the board’s work would not be marked by fanfare but by a clear commitment to institutional reform and efficient service delivery.
“This is not a time for celebration. It is a time for service and reform,” he noted.
He expressed hope that under the leadership of Energy Minister John Jinapor, the newly constituted board would support efforts to “reset ECG” and restore confidence in the power distribution company.
The ECG has come under intense scrutiny in recent years over widespread power outages, revenue losses, and operational inefficiencies. Industry experts have long called for strategic reforms and tighter governance to salvage the state utility.
Agbana’s appointment has been viewed by political analysts as part of a broader push by the Mahama-led administration to inject fresh energy and reform-oriented leadership into key state institutions.
The MP has previously served on several parliamentary committees and is known for his outspoken advocacy on youth empowerment and public accountability.
