The Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) decongestion team have uncovered an illegal brothel named ‘Lucifer’s Village’ near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Reports indicate that Lucifer’s Village contains a network of unlawful buildings such as brothels, bars, and restaurants, all built over a significant drain.
Joseph Asitanga, the Environmental Health Officer overseeing the operation for the AMA, disclosed that the location poses a public health and safety crisis.
He remarked that the buildings were unauthorised and presented a significant danger to residents and visitors alike.
The Environmental Health Officer also disclosed that initial surveys showed that the residents of Lucifer Village are foreign nationals, consisting of Nigerians and Togolese, who lack the necessary permits to run a business in the country.
Joseph Asitanga, speaking to the media,a stated, “These structures are built directly on top of a major gutter. There are pubs, brothels and other operations happening here — completely unregulated and extremely dangerous”.
The region has been designated as a hub for unethical and illegal activities.
The AMA announced that buildings at ‘Lucifer’s Village’ will be demolished to stop illegal occupation of essential infrastructure like drainage systems.
