MY BANK ACCOUNTS WERE FROZEN WITHOUT PRIOR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT EXACTLY IS MY OFFENCE – Chairman Wontumi Laments

Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has acknowledged that his bank accounts have been stopped for reasons he does not know.

Due to suspected financial irregularities, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) reportedly froze all accounts associated with Chairman Wontumi and his business, Akonta Mining, in April 2025.

Reports state that the freeze was implemented in accordance with Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), which gives the FIC the authority to impose restrictions on financial account access in cases where there is a reasonable suspicion of illegal behavior.

Chairman Wontumi disclosed that his personal and business accounts were stopped without warning when appearing on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program.

“What exactly is my offence? They froze all the accounts without any official communication. I went to the bank for a transaction and was told they have been issued a letter that I couldn’t be given money,” he stated.
