LET’S HEAL THE SCARS OF THE PAST – Mahama Supports Reparations For Africa

The moment has come for justice, acknowledgement, and reconciliation, and President John Dramani Mahama has joined the increasing chorus of people around the world calling for former colonial rulers to pay reparations to African countries.

Mahama did not mince words when addressing the lingering effects of slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism on the African continent and its diaspora during a presidential speech on Sunday in honour of African Union Day.

“For too long the legacy of slavery, colonialism and neo-colonialism has cast a long shadow on the lives and progress of Africans and people of African descent,” he said.

“These historical injustices have left deep scars. Reparations are not merely about financial compensation. They are about acknowledging the profound and enduring damage inflicted upon our people.”

Mahama’s message was an impassioned appeal to action rather than merely a historical reflection. He called on African leaders, organisations, and international allies to cooperate in order to create a just and respectable future.

“Let us work together to build a future where justice prevails, where the wounds of the past are healed and where the potential of every African and person of African descent is fully realized,” he said.
