The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has announced that multiple award-winning dancehall artist, Stonebwoy, will be the headline performer at the 50th edition of the SWAG Awards, marking a historic fusion of sports and music.
The Golden Jubilee event is scheduled for November 15, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, promising an “unprecedented union of sporting excellence and explosive musical entertainment.”
According to the association, Stonebwoy’s performance is more than just a musical interlude; it is a cultural statement that underscores the award ceremony’s status as the nation’s premier platform for honoring sporting excellence. Known for his electrifying stagecraft, dynamic choreography, and powerful vocal delivery, Stonebwoy’s blend of Afro-dancehall, reggae, and Afropop is expected to provide a “soundtrack to triumph” for the gathered athletes and dignitaries.
The 50th-anniversary ceremony is designed to be a moment of deep reverence for Ghanaian sporting history. It will not only honor the outstanding athletes of the past year but also celebrate the legacy of legends from the past five decades.
A star-studded list of nominees features footballing greats like Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew and boxing legend Azumah Nelson, alongside current international stars such as Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, and Jordan Ayew. Coach Kwesi Appiah is also among the distinguished nominees.
The awards will also recognize excellence beyond the pitch, with categories for SWAG Club of the Year—contested by Police Ladies, Faith Ladies, Kotoko SC, and Bibiani Gold Stars and SWAG Technical Official of the Year, with nominees Daniel Laryea (Football), Francis Yeboah (Badminton), and Warrant Officer Clement Smith (Athletics).
The event will be graced by high-profile guests, including the Chief of Staff, Honourable Julius Debrah, as the Guest of Honour, and Gianni Merlo, President of the global sports press body AIPS, adding international prestige to the celebration.
With the combination of Ghana’s most prestigious sports awards and one of Africa’s biggest musical stars, the 50th SWAG Awards is poised to be a historic convergence of culture, national pride, and golden celebration.
