TEMA AND TAKORADI PORTS TO OPERATE 24-HOURS SOON – President Mahama Announces

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the ports of Tema and Takoradi will be designated as 24-hour operational ports soon, as an element of his government’s ambitious 24-hour economy strategy intended to enhance productivity, efficiency, and national development.

The initiative is anticipated to greatly improve Ghana’s trade and logistics capabilities by facilitating uninterrupted port activities, reducing delays, and drawing in more investments.

Addressing the 2025 Horticulture Expo, President Mahama stated that the shift to 24/7 port operations is being executed in strong partnership with significant public institutions.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture Business and Industry, together with the Ministry of Transport, are working in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, the Ghana Shippers’ Council, and other key stakeholders to soon declare the Tema and Takoradi ports as 24-hour operational ports,” he stated.

He explained that the effort involves more than just lengthening work hours; it focuses on developing the complete framework to enable continuous economic activity.

“It will involve building the necessary infrastructure, improving energy supply, enhancing security, strengthening transport networks, and developing digital platforms to enable continuous agricultural and industrial activities,” President Mahama added.

He described the initiative as “a strategy of hope rooted in efficiency and skill,” stressing its potential to reposition Ghana as a leading trade hub in the West African sub-region.
