SEVEN STUDENTS FROM LAWRA SHS DEAD AFTER DROWNING WHILE CROSSING RIVER DIKPE IN A CANOE
Seven Lawra Senior High School students perished in the River Dikpe on Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, while trying to cross in a canoe.
Seven of the students were killed when the canoe capsized in the middle of a group of ten who were attempting to cross the river.
Seven of the pupils were carried away by the current, while three were able to swim ashore.
Five bodies have been recovered as of this writing, while the remaining two are still being sought.
The kids, who were part of the school’s cadet corps, were jogging in the morning as part of their regular routine when the event happened, according to sources compiled by Graphic Online.
According to reports, the party decided to ride behind a man who was canoeing across the river when they arrived at the riverside. But shortly after leaving, the canoe capsized.
Official statements regarding the incident have not yet been released by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) or the Police.
