GHANA POLICE ANNOUNCE MAJOR ROAD CLOSURES IN ACCRA AHEAD OF HELICOPTER CRASH VICTIMS STATE FUNERAL

The Ghana Police Service has announced significant traffic diversions in Accra on Friday, August 15, 2025, to facilitate the Inter-Denominational and Inter-Faith State Funeral for victims of the recent military helicopter crash.

The funeral, scheduled to take place at Independence Square, will see the temporary closure of several key roads, including:

  • 28th February Road – From the CEPS Traffic Light Intersection to Castle Road Junction.
  • Lokko Street – Osu Cemetery Traffic Light area.
  • Castle Road – From AU to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.
  • Starlet 91 Road – Closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection.

Traffic Diversion Routes:

  • Vehicles from La, Labone, and Osu heading towards the Central Business District via 28th February Road will be diverted onto Salem Avenue Road at the Castle Traffic Light, linking to Oxford Street.
  • Motorists from Lokko Street to Castle Road will use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street.
  • Traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street to Black Star Square will be rerouted via Liberia Road at the CEPS Intersection.
  • Vehicles from AU Circle to Castle Road through Osu Cemetery Traffic Light will be diverted via Abdul Diouf Road and King Hassan Road to join Abdul Nasser Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

The Police are urging motorists to plan ahead, comply with directions, and use alternative routes to ease congestion during the solemn event.
