‘IF I TELL YOU I AM IMPRESSED WITH OTTO ADDO, THEN IT MEANS I DO NOT KNOW MY JOB’ – Sports Minister Kofi Adams
Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation has raised worries over the Black Stars’ incongruous performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, stating that the head coach Otto Addo’s performance is not impressive.
After a pivotal 1-0 victory over Mali in Accra on Monday night, the Black Stars now lead Group I with 19 points after eight games. That outcome followed a dismal 1-1 tie with Chad that prompted harsh criticism from both supporters and commentators.
During his appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Adams criticized Ghana’s inconsistent performance and raised concerns about the team’s preparedness for future tournaments.
“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us,” he cautioned.
Adams also emphasized that if Ghana is to meet its qualifying targets, Addo needs to sharpen his tactical strategy.
“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he queried.
The Black Stars lead Group I of the CAF World Cup qualifications right now, but they still need to win at least four of their next two games to guarantee a spot in the USA, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
