Ghanaian singer triumphs over Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr, and others; credits viral dance by student Tracy Shay for boosting "Too Late."

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has been crowned Best Female Artiste in Western Africa at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, January 11.
The “Uber Driver” hitmaker clinched the prestigious regional award, beating a competitive field including Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and Ayra Starr, Ghana’s Moliy and Amaarae, and other notable female artists from across West Africa.
In her acceptance speech, Wendy Shay expressed gratitude to her fans, team, and especially to Tracy Gyasi, the student popularly known as Tracy Shay, whose viral dance to the song “Too Late” helped propel the track to massive popularity in 2025.
“I want to say thank you to my Lord and Saviour, I want to say thank you to my fans, the Shay Gang, I want to say thank you to my partners. And I want to say thank you to my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to Too Late. It went viral because of her,” the singer stated.
The award adds to a successful year for Wendy Shay, whose single “Too Late” gained widespread attention after a video of Tracy Gyasi dancing to the song at a school event circulated widely on social media, amplifying its reach and engagement.
AFRIMA, established in collaboration with the African Union, recognizes and celebrates musical excellence and cultural heritage across the continent, with the 2025 edition featuring multiple days of conferences and cultural exchanges culminating in Saturday’s awards ceremony.
