THE APPRECIATION OF THE CEDI AND ACHIEVING SINGLE-DIGIT INFLATION WERE MY HUSBAND’S IDEAS, NOT MAHAMA’S IDEA — Samira Bawumia

Former Second Lady Samira Bawumia has credited Ghana’s recent cedi appreciation and the achievement of single-digit inflation to the economic ideas of her husband, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, dismissing claims that the policies originated from former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mrs Bawumia, the strategies that stabilised the local currency and helped tame inflation were developed and championed by Dr Bawumia during his time in government.

She argued that the economic framework and fiscal discipline implemented under the current administration reflected her husband’s long-standing proposals, rather than initiatives inherited from the previous government.

Her comments come amid renewed political debate over who deserves credit for Ghana’s past economic gains, particularly as inflation and currency stability remain key issues for voters.

Mrs Bawumia maintained that Dr Bawumia’s ideas played a central role in shaping policies that delivered measurable results for the economy
