I FULFILLED ALL CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS UNDER THE LABEL – Kwesi Arthur
Rapper responds to Ground Up Chale contract claims and $150,000 image rights demand

Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has broken his silence on claims that he failed to complete his contract with his former label, Ground Up Chale. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 22, 2026, the “Grind Day” hitmaker insisted that he honoured every aspect of his agreement with the team.
“I lived up to the contract. I did the time. Even after it was over, I decided to work with you on Son of Jacob in good faith. I carried Ground Up Chale on my back,” he wrote.
Kwesi Arthur’s response follows growing speculation and criticism surrounding his departure from the label. While some insiders suggest he left prematurely, the rapper claims not only did he fulfill the terms, but he continued collaborating out of loyalty and goodwill.
The rapper also made fresh allegations against Ground Up Chale executives, particularly music executive Glen Boateng. According to Kwesi, he has faced intimidation, unfair financial demands, and obstacles to his solo career.
He revealed that he is now being asked to pay $150,000 to use his own image for his new project, Redemption Valley.
Kwesi Arthur clarified that he has had no working relationship with Ground Up Chale since the release of his Son of Jacob album and added that, despite his contributions and success under the label, he earned nothing from the music produced during that period.
He also alleged that efforts are being made behind the scenes to sabotage his independent releases, cautioning fans that any takedowns of his current projects are being orchestrated by his former management team.
“Any takedown of my work, know where it’s coming from,” he warned.
Kwesi Arthur’s statement has reignited debate over artist-label relationships in Ghana’s music industry, especially concerning ownership, creative control, and compensation
