The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has stated that if the contentious electronic levy does not pass, the Ghanaian economy would suffer.
Ken Ofori Atta according to Ghbase.com added if the e-levy is not approved, the government would have to seek help from the IMF.
In a rallying cry to Ghanaians, he warned returning to the IMF will halt all economic progress accomplished by the administration.
Ken Ofori-Atta said the E-levy would spare the nation from relying on the IMF for financial support, which he called terrible.
“We couldn’t pay nurses and teachers because there were restrictions,” he claimed. It’s simply believing you can return to Egypt.”
“We have forgotten how tough and stubborn that Washington master was.”
“We can deal with them for advice but never enter back into an IMF program. “If we don’t undertake this E-levy, we’re simply driving ourselves to the brink,” Ofori-Atta added.
Some Ghanaians, particularly Minority Caucus MPs, have criticized the E-levy since its unveiling by the Finance Minister.
