Actress and TV host, Nayas1, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for its Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, stating that it provided much-needed relief during one of the most challenging periods of her life.
In a video sighted by Nkonkonsa.com, Nayas1 recalled her struggles as a single mother after returning from Germany with numerous financial difficulties. Sharing her story, she revealed that paying her child’s school fees had become a significant burden, with fees exceeding GH₵5,000 per term at one point.
“I don’t usually like to talk about politics, but I must say this: thank you to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. God bless them,” she began. “We single mothers were really suffering, and I was in a tough situation where I didn’t know how I would afford my child’s education.”
Nayas1 admitted that she was initially skeptical about the Free SHS policy but has since become a firm believer after witnessing its impact firsthand. She shared how the initiative allowed her child to attend school without any major financial strain.
“Honestly, I didn’t believe in the Free SHS policy at first. But today, my child is benefiting from it. No one asked me for bribes. The only things I had to buy were a pen, pencil, and eraser. That’s it. I don’t spend much aside from feeding money when my child goes to school,” she said.
The actress went on to urge Ghanaians to appreciate the policy, highlighting its benefits, especially for parents and guardians facing financial challenges. “I plead with the elders and people of Ghana to acknowledge that this is a good initiative. Even those who were not interested in schooling now have a reason to attend,” she added.
Nayas1 concluded by stating that she would extend similar praise to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) if they introduced a policy as impactful as Free SHS. Her testimony serves as a reminder of the transformative effect of the Free SHS program on families across Ghana.
The Free SHS policy, introduced by the Akufo-Addo-led government in 2017, continues to be a topic of national discussion, with many parents and guardians acknowledging its role in making education more accessible.
