AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS IS BIGGER THAN THE WORLD CUP FOR ME – Otto Addo

Otto Addo, the coach of the Black Stars, believes that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is more important than the FIFA World Cup, despite the latter being considered the top event in international football.

After Ghana’s inability to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, Addo expressed his remorse in a sincere post-match press conference and apologized to the Ghanaian people for the team’s unsatisfactory results.

The Black Stars came in last place in Group F, collecting only three points in six games, resulting in the country missing the AFCON for the first time in two decades.

“For many, the World Cup is bigger than the AFCON, but for me personally, the AFCON is bigger. It’s just a personal thing,” Addo stated.

He expressed his comprehension of the significance of the World Cup, but revealed that AFCON holds a stronger emotional bond for him.

“I would like to apologise very much. I know how much it means for every Ghanaian to play in this tournament, and I am sorry for not delivering. I know the pain and disappointment this has caused.”

Addo thought about his commitment to the national team, remembering when he experienced an ACL injury while representing Ghana.

“Even after my career-ending injury, my love for the nation has never wavered. I would give everything for the country.”
