AFRICA’S BIGGEST PROBLEM IS BRAIN DRAIN – Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has revealed the biggest problem the continent, Africa is faced with.

Speaking at the Oxford Africa Business Forum via Zoom broadcast live, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh urged Africans in the Diaspora to return home and assist build the continent.

The top NPP member believes that returning these specialists to their home nations is the best approach to help Africa thrive in these difficult times.

“I often repeat that we need human capital, and most African nations’ human capital is located outside Africa,” he remarked. We need to bring our diasporans’ technology and skills back to Africa to add value to our work.

“I can’t recall a continent growing up without its diaspora returning.” Japan, South Korea They went to school, became trained, and returned home to aid in their nations’ war for freedom. That’s what we lack.”

He said that the African continent lacks human capital, noting that there are no incentives for investment and no natural resources.

“It’s not because we lack incentives for investors or natural resources. No other continent has as many natural resources. Human capital, endowment, and ability to contribute to what we have are lacking.”
