AGRADAA RELEASED AFTER SERVING NINE MONTHS IN PRISON

Evangelist recounts fear and faith after sentence reduced from 15 years to one

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been released from prison after serving nine months of her custodial sentence.

Her release follows Ghana’s standard remission regulations, under which inmates may serve two-thirds of their sentence for good behaviour. Agradaa completed nine months of a revised one-year jail term.

She was initially sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on charges of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement. However, the sentence was later reviewed and reduced to one year.

Speaking to journalists after regaining her freedom, Agradaa said she never accepted the original 15-year sentence.

“I never accepted that I was going to serve 15 years because I asked myself, what sin have I committed?” she stated.

She described her initial entry into prison as a frightening experience.

“I was scared when I was going into prison. I thought that was the end for me,” she said.

Reflecting further, she revealed that she feared she might not survive the ordeal.

“On my way, I felt I might die in prison,” she said in Twi.

Agradaa added that when she arrived at the prison gate, she turned to her faith for strength.

“When I reached the prison gate, the only thing I could say was, ‘God, I surrender myself to You,’ because I did not know what awaited me inside. I asked Him to have mercy, held my Bible tightly, and walked in.”

Her release has sparked varied reactions among the public, with supporters welcoming her return while others continue to reflect on the circumstances surrounding her conviction.
