AHAFO ANO SOUTH EAST MP EXPELS CHINESE OVER ALLEGED GALAMSEY ACTIVITIES

A group of Chinese nationals were asked to leave the Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed’s constituency, after it was alleged that they were involved in galamsey, or illegal mining.

The MP claimed that the people’s actions violated Ghana’s mining regulations, which led him to decide to remove them from the region.

He strongly warned the organization not to try to engage in illicit mining within the area in the future.

Hon. Yakubu Mohammed emphasised that Ghana would likewise not allow actions that harm local lives and the environment, reminding the foreigners that such activities would not be accepted in their own nation.

Some locals have applauded the action, but they still demand that anti-galamsey laws be strictly enforced in order to save farmlands, waterways, and communities impacted by illicit mining.
