AIR INDIA FLIGHT TO LONDON CRASHES SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF WITH OVER 240 PEOPLE ON BOARD

A London-bound Air India flight has crashed in Ahmedabad, India, just minutes after takeoff, sparking a massive rescue operation.

The aircraft, Air India Flight 171, was carrying 242 people when it went down in the densely populated Meghani area shortly after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:39 p.m. local time (9:09 a.m. BST) on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and devastation as huge plumes of smoke and flames rose from the crash site. Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene in a desperate effort to save lives.

Air India confirmed that 53 British nationals were on board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, along with 169 Indian nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens. In total, the aircraft was carrying 217 adults and 11 children.

The aircraft had sent out a ‘mayday’ distress call moments after takeoff, signaling an emergency, but air traffic control reportedly received no further response.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with the full extent of casualties yet to be confirmed. Local hospitals have been placed on high alert.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and Air India is expected to release further details as emergency teams continue to assess the situation.
