Ghana’s President is scheduled to inaugurate Flower Pot Interchange today, November 19, 2024.
The interchange is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion on the North and South corridors of the Tema Motorway, facilitating easier access to areas surrounding Tema, Spintex, and East Legon.
The key features of the interchange include an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct surfaced with asphalt, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct leading towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the motorway heading towards Tema.
Work on the Interchange commenced in March 2017 after the NPP government renegotiated the project’s scope, expanding it to include additional ancillary works. This adjustment brought the total cost of the project to GHS 285 million, reflecting its status as an interchange.
By the end of 2022, GHS 141 million from our petroleum receipts through the ABFA was allocated for the project.
Again, $35 million from the $750 million Afreximbank facility secured in 2023 was utilized as a funding source for the project.
