During a major ceremony taking place in Accra on December 30, 2024, Ghana’s departing Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, received the esteemed Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This award, the highest national honor in Ghana, was given in acknowledgment of Dr. Bawumia’s outstanding leadership, commitment, and significant contributions to national growth over the last eight years.
The occasion, which was a segment of the 2024 National Honours and Awards, recognized exceptional Ghanaians across multiple sectors, such as civil service, military, police, judiciary, education, public health, sports, culture, business, and agriculture.
Dr. Bawumia, who recently ran for the 2024 presidential elections as the candidate for the New Patriotic Party, was one of the top honorees.
In his speech, President Akufo-Addo praised the award recipients for their crucial contributions to the progress of Ghana. He praised Dr. Bawumia for leading groundbreaking digitalization initiatives that have upgraded essential sectors of the economy.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the elections, was also recognized and honored with the Order of the Volta – Officer Award for his notable contributions to public service.
The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, such as Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, State Ministers, and various senior officials.
Founded in 1960, the National Honours and Awards program acknowledges and honors the creativity, innovation, and dedication of Ghanaians who have made substantial contributions to the country’s development.
This year’s event showcased the ongoing dedication to service and excellence that propels Ghana onward.
