The departing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is preparing to give his last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
He is set to speak to the country from Parliament House today Friday, January 3, 2025, prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament.
The President is anticipated to share an update regarding the nation’s situation, addressing multiple sectors of the economy, prior to transferring power to the newly elected President, John Mahama.
In the meantime, the 8th Parliament will be disbanded during the evening of Monday, January 6, to allow for the swearing-in of the 9th Parliament on that same day.
The occasion will also feature the selection of the new Speaker of Parliament and two deputies, who are anticipated to take their oaths of office at midnight.
This is to guarantee that the new administration, headed by John Mahama, can start its tasks right away.
