‘I WENT TOO FAR’ – Okyere Baafi Apologizes After Vowing To Resign If NPP Lose Akwatia Seat

Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has expressed regret to Ghanaians for not keeping his pledge to step down in the event that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the Akwatia by-election.

Before the polls, Okyere Baafi promised to resign if the NPP lost. However, after Tuesday’s election on September 2, in which Bernard Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won with 18,199 votes to Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP’s 15,235, the MP renounced his promise.

“Maybe in hindsight, I went too far. I apologise to Ghana,” he told Asaase Radio that he made the audacious statement because of the enthusiasm and resounding support for the NPP’s campaign in Akwatia.
