Acclaimed gospel singer Diana Hamilton from Ghana has provided her viewpoint on the growing LGBTQ discussion in the nation.
On August 12, 2023, Hamilton made an appearance on the program “United Showbiz” and shared her opinions.
The artist, who is best known for her number-one single “Mo Ne Yo,” highlighted that Ghana’s opposition to LGBTQ activities on its territory is a result of its culture and core beliefs. She said that everyone should accept the nation’s decision, especially nations like the United States.
Hamilton emphasized that every country has distinctive cultural and ethical characteristics that influence its identity. She emphasized the value of upholding national decisions, especially when they conflict with those of other nations.
She also emphasized that regardless of Ghana’s position on LGBTQ issues, businesses and investors will continue to interact with the country.
She made these remarks in response to Virginia Palmer, the current US ambassador to Ghana, who had previously voiced worry that the Anti-LGBTQ Bill being debated by Ghana’s parliament might deter US investment and have a detrimental effect on the nation’s economy.
Hamilton gave the example of other nations that retain particular cultural values, such as monogamy in the UK, while nevertheless participating in international corporate alliances. She highlighted that Ghana should stick to its convictions and decisions because other nations uphold similar values that are valued despite divergent viewpoints.
