An Accra Appeals Court has instructed investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to remove his mask to give testimony in the case concerning him and the ex-President of the Ghana Football Association.
The ex-president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, is in legal proceedings with Anas Aremeyaw Anas regarding a documentary that ended his football administration career.
Issuing the unanimous verdict, Justices Anthony Oppong, Ackaah Boafo, and Aboagye Tandoh, who oversaw the case, determined that Anas was unable to give testimony while hiding his face.
The Appeals Court condemned the High Court’s choice to reevaluate the state’s demand for Anas to provide testimony anonymously, suggesting that a Supreme Court decision on that matter meant another application should not have been considered.
“The doctrine of stare decisis binds lower courts to the decisions of higher courts, and as such, the High Court erred in revisiting an issue already settled by the Supreme Court,” the ruling stated.
