Prophet Kumchacha has revealed a shocking statement regarding Asamoah Gyan and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He claimed that the ex-Black Stars leader intentionally botched a crucial penalty due to his political connections.
Kumchacha uttered these words during his appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
He stated that Gyan, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter, failed to score the penalty, preventing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from receiving any praise.
Kumchacha thinks that Gyan’s backing of the NPP affected his choice to miss the penalty kick, potentially costing Ghana a spot in the semi-finals, a significant achievement for any African squad.
“Everyone knows Gyan supports the NPP. That’s why he missed the penalty in 2010. The NDC was in power, and he didn’t want them to get the glory,” Kumchacha claimed.
During the 2010 World Cup quarter-final against Uruguay, Asamoah Gyan had a chance to win the game for Ghana with a penalty kick, as the score was tied at 1-1 and there were only a few minutes left.
Sadly, his shot hit the crossbar and Ghana ended up losing in the subsequent penalty shootout, resulting in one of the most tragic moments in the country’s football history.
