Shock and outrage grip the Ashanti Region after Kyidomhene Nana Osei Bonsu was executed in a late-night attack along the Mampong-Brofoyedru road. The 48-year-old sub-chief was reportedly dragged from his Toyota Corolla and shot at point-blank range in what authorities are treating as a targeted assassination.
“This wasn’t random – they waited for him,” said Assemblyman Richard Nketiah, first official at the grisly 3 AM crime scene where the chief lay in a pool of blood wearing his distinctive mauve Lacoste shirt.
The late chief had reportedly traveled from Kumasi, where he lived with his immediate family, to his hometown of Brofoyedru over the weekend. While his extended family believed he had returned to Kumasi, his wife confirmed he left home again on Monday evening, presumably heading back to Brofoyedru before the fatal ambush.
The murder has exposed glaring security gaps for traditional leaders, with regional police yet to identify suspects or establish whether the killing stems from chieftaincy disputes, political tensions, or personal vendettas.
