Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has declared a GH¢100 million budget to grant monthly stipends to Assembly Members nationwide.
During the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement to Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, Dr. Forson highlighted the government’s acknowledgment of the vital role Assembly Members have in local governance and development.
“Mr. Speaker, an amount of GH¢100 million has been allocated for the payment of monthly allowance to all Assembly Members,” he stated.
For years, Assembly Members have expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of financial aid, despite their considerable contributions to local governance, conflict resolution, and community development.
Numerous individuals have had to depend on their own resources to meet their obligations, a difficulty that frequently hampers efficient service delivery at the district level.
