ASSIN NORTH MP GYAKYE QUAYSON ACQUITTED AND DISCHARGED, HIGH COURT DISMISSES ALL 5 CHARGES AFTER THREE YEARS

The High Court in Accra has cleared James Gyakye Quayson of all five criminal charges. Quayson is the Member of Parliament for Assin North.

Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuh announced the decision, ending a three-year legal battle that captured national interest.

Quayson was accused of deceiving a public officer, forging a passport or travel documents, making a false declaration, perjury, and falsely claiming eligibility for office.

These accusations arose from questions about his ability to participate in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Even though the new Attorney General suggested dropping the 2022 lawsuit, Quayson chose to push forward with the trial.

On April 9, Justice Yanzuh declared that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove the charges against him.

This is a significant change in Quayson’s political path.

In 2023, he was removed from Parliament after a Supreme Court decision disqualified him from the 2020 elections. Yet, he ran again and won the Assin North seat in a by-election.

With this High Court decision, Quayson can now carry on with his work in Parliament free from these criminal charges.
