NPP COMM. TEAM MEMBER, AWAL MOHAMMED APOLOGISES FOR CALLING SHATTA WALE’S FANS ‘JUNKIES’

Member of the New Patriotic Party’s Communication team, Awal Mohammed, has publicly apologised to dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, following backlash over remarks he made about the singer’s fans.
The apology came after he faced criticism from industry stakeholders and the public for a comment made during a live show on Joy News’ morning show on Tuesday 20, January 2025.
While discussing the government’s stringent bail conditions, he inadvertently referred to a section of Shatta Wale’s supporters as “junkies.”
Taking to his Facebook page, Awal Mohammed clarified his statement:
“I appeared on Joy News yesterday for the morning show. During the debate, while condemning the Government’s stringent bail conditions, I inadvertently referred to a section of Shatta Wale supporters as ‘junkies.’
“I want to clarify that I didn’t intend to insult or belittle anyone. The term was unnecessary, and I’m truly sorry for any offense caused. I respect the passion of fans and acknowledge that my choice of words was wrong—it was totally out of sync with my character. I sincerely apologise and hope we can move forward positively.”
The apology has been welcomed by fans and industry insiders alike, highlighting the importance of accountability in public discourse.
Awal Mohammed’s statement concludes with a note of reflection and a call for unity, emphasising the need for respectful dialogue in Ghana’s entertainment and political conversations.
