AYITTEY POWERS REVEALS HE WAS PAID JUST GH¢25,000 FOR HIGHLY-PUBLICIZED BUKOM BANKU BOUT

Ghanaian boxer Ayittey Powers has made a startling revelation about the financial rewards he received from his much-hyped bout against Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku.

Speaking in an interview with Happy FM, Powers disclosed that he earned only GH¢25,000 for the 2015 showdown, despite the bout attracting massive media attention, a packed stadium, and multiple corporate sponsors.

“During my time, I was paid GH¢500, GH¢300 for some fights. Even for my bout with Bukom Banku, I was paid GH¢25,000,” he said.

The comment has sparked renewed discussions about the state of remuneration in Ghana’s boxing scene, especially for local fighters who headline blockbuster events.

About the Bout

The fight in question took place on December 26, 2015, in Kumasi and was one of the most anticipated local boxing matches of the decade. Despite the anticipation and fanfare, Powers suffered a technical knockout after failing to return for the sixth round following a relentless assault from Bukom Banku in the early rounds.

Bukom Banku, who dominated the bout from the onset, was later rewarded with a GH¢100,000 cash prize, a brand new Range Rover, and a holiday trip to South Africa—a stark contrast to what Ayittey Powers took home.
