Even though veteran musician Adane Best wasn’t there at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ceremony on May 6, he was honored by the winner of the night’s top prize.
Black Sherif, the latest Artsite of the Year (AOTY) after receiving his award started out by singing Adane Best’s evergreen ‘Baa he otɛ’ track before delivering his victory speech.
Despite Piesie Esther’s fierce competition, the 21-year-old with the full name Mohammed Ismail Sherif was the undisputed front-runner for the prize.
When he was named the winner of the award, which is the top honor of the evening, the audience erupted in jubilant applause.
The rising artist known as “Blacko” has had a fantastic year, with his hit tracks and album topping charts all over the nation and causing ripples abroad.
Many fans have been captivated by his unique sound and style, which combine elements of Hip-life, High-life, and Afrobeat.
Aside Piesie Esther, other contenders for the award were, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, KiDi and Joe Mettle.
