The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has condemned Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign, likening it to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s strategy in the recent elections in America.
Mr. Gyamfi offered these comments on JoyFM’s Newsfile on Saturday, examining the viewpoints of the NPP and NDC in light of Donald Trump’s significant win in the U.S. elections.
“Bawumia is running a campaign very similar to that of Kamala Harris because they are all attempting to excoriate themselves from liability and responsibility,” he asserted, drawing a parallel between Harris’s and Bawumia’s campaign strategies.
As per the vocal politician, both leaders are working to separate themselves from the failings of their administrations, a move he termed as “in vain.”
Mr. Gyamfi contended that, similar to American voters, Ghanaians are perceptive and not easily influenced by what he referred to as “hollow rhetoric” from the Vice President.
He cautioned that Mr. Bawumia’s efforts to depict himself as distinct from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) track record would fail.
“The people of this country are discerning just like the people of America, so just like the people of America did not buy that, I know that the people of Ghana will not buy that campaign of Bawumia because he’s one and the same as Akufo-Addo,” he said.
He also argued that Dr. Bawumia could not successfully separate himself from the NPP’s policies and administration under President Akufo-Addo, particularly while the party remains in power.
“A vote for Bawumia is nothing but a vote for Akufo-Addo,” he pressed on, highlighting that the Vice President’s pledges for change sound insincere while he remains linked to the ruling party’s economic strategies.
However, the NDC Communications Officer admitted that the outcome of former President Trump’s win would not dictate which party triumphs in the December elections.
As the upcoming elections approach, all 13 candidates have ramped up their efforts to promote their message in order to achieve a decisive win.
