BAWUMIA WAS UNHAPPY AT NPP PEACE PACT EVENT – Sammi Awuku

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku has admitted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former vice president and potential flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was not pleased with the party’s signature of the Peace Pact.

In an interview with Adom TV, Mr. Awuku stated that Dr. Bawumia has voiced worries about party developments leading up to the presidential primary, specifically with regard to the rules’ enforcement.

Dr. Bawumia claims that he has been the target of persistent attacks on a variety of campaign platforms and that, in spite of his repeated complaints, party leadership has not taken significant steps to guarantee impartiality, decency, and respect among the candidates.

One of the main problems, according to Mr. Awuku, is the Presidential Elections Committee’s decision to prohibit proxy voting in the presidential primary.

He claims that this decision is unworkable and has essentially deprived hundreds of Dr. Bawumia’s followers in the diaspora of their right to vote.

“Obviously, he wasn’t happy. He hasn’t been happy about a few developments. He believes that the Presidential Elections Committee and the party are not playing on an equal playing field when it comes to enforcing the rules of the game.

“Looking at his countenance and demeanor, he is human. He cannot pretend when all is not well. It is clear. Some decisions of the Presidential Elections Committee have some implications on the party,” he stated.

In order to maintain unity ahead of the party’s presidential primary on January 31, Mr. Awuku insisted that Dr. Bawumia’s discontent is warranted given the situation.
