61-YEAR-OLD REGGIE ROCKSTONE STUNS IN MMA VICTORY AT GLOBAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Ghanaian music icon Reggie Rockstone has made an unexpected but powerful statement in the world of sports, defeating a younger opponent in a gripping mixed martial arts (MMA) showdown over the weekend.
The 61-year-old Hiplife pioneer triumphed over William Adom via submission during the Global World Championship fight held at the Bukom Boxing Arena. Despite an early struggle due to his age, Rockstone regained composure and secured the win by locking his opponent in a chokehold that led to a tap-out.
The bout attracted a packed crowd and notable dignitaries, including Kimathi Rawlings, creating an electrifying atmosphere that bridged Ghana’s fight and music communities.
Though his MMA appearance surprised many, Rockstone revealed in a pre-fight interview that martial arts was actually his first love.
“If you’ve known me for over 50 years, you’d know I started martial arts before music,” he said. “I was the youngest Shotokan brown belt and a two-time junior Taekwondo champion.”
Rockstone’s return to combat sports wasn’t merely about personal glory. He emphasized that his late entry into professional MMA was aimed at inspiring the youth and spotlighting Ghana’s emerging MMA scene.
“Every day is a risk, but this is a calculated one. My goal is to lend my celebrity to build MMA in Ghana and show that age shouldn’t stop anyone from chasing new goals.”
