BE CALM, STEADFAST AND LAW-ABIDING IN THIS PERIOD OF POLITICAL PERSECUTION – Bawumia Tells NPP

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that the Mahama administration is treating NPP members unfairly.

He believes that the government led by Mahama is specifically targeting individuals from his party, creating an atmosphere of persecution and injustice.

Dr. Bawumia expresses concern over this behavior, suggesting it is an intentional act against his party, which he finds troubling and problematic.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that Ghana’s democracy depends on respecting rules and laws, which means the Government should do the same.

He expressed this view following his advice to President John Dramani Mahama to immediately manage his security forces properly.

Dr. Bawumia also stressed that government institutions should not be used as tools for political purposes to harass or intimidate political rivals.

In a Facebook post, Dr Bawumia said, “Last night, following the attempted raid by some alleged officials of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), I visited Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South and Ranking Member of Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior. Rev. Fordjour was in high spirits and undaunted. I urge all Party faithful to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding in this period of unfortunate political persecution.

“I wish to reiterate my earlier submission to the President, H.E John Dramani Mahama, to immediately rein in his security operatives. State institutions must not be reduced to political tools used to harass and intimidate opponents. Ghanaians will not accept this descent into lawlessness and fear. Our democracy is hinged on due process and rule of law.”
