‘BE CAREFUL, WHEN YOU’RE SEEN ON ONE PLATFORM, IT’S LIKE AN ENDORSEMENT’ – Blakk Rasta Cautions Olivetheboy After Performance At NDC Youth Manifesto Launch

Blakk Rasta, the well-known reggae musician and public figure, has expressed his disapproval of Olivetheboy after the latter’s appearance at the NDC Youth Manifesto launch on August 12, 2024.

Olivetheboy gave a lively performance of his popular song “Goodsin” at UPSA during the event.

In a later interview, Olivetheboy explained that his presence was strictly for professional reasons and not a statement of political support.

He stressed that he is open to performing for any political party if hired and that his top priorities are his career and financial security.

Nevertheless, Blakk Rasta voiced his worries during the Black Pot segment of 3FM on August 13, 2024.

He claimed that artists such as Olivetheboy have a significant impact on their fans, who could perceive their involvement in political gatherings as a show of support for those organizations.

“Your fans are going to inundate the place. And when they come inundating the place, what are you going to be telling them?

“I do not really like it when musicians say, ‘Oh, yes, it was a political gathering, but I was hired as a professional, and I went there to deliver, and I went away.’

“My brother, when you appear at such places, you have a voice. Are you going ahead to perform and tell them that, ‘I am only here to perform because I have been paid to come and perform, and that’s it.’? he asked.

Blakk Rasta doubted the idea of taking on shows only for money, warning that it could harm an artist’s image and relationship with fans. He warned Olivetheboy to consider the possible consequences of performing at political gatherings

“So, if you are paid to come and kill people, will you go and do it? If you are paid to appear just anywhere, will you go because you are professional? Is it the money you are after or the aftermath of it all? Please, I think that we have to be very careful.

“Please. If you want a career in music, remember that your fans are cut across everywhere: NDC, NPP, and all the other people. When you are seen on one platform, it’s like an endorsement of that,” he said.

He emphasized the need for artists to carefully consider the broader consequences of their public appearances, cautioning against actions that could isolate certain parts of their audience.

Blakk Rasta emphasized that in music, the perception of endorsement is just as important as the actual performance.
