The Osu Kinkawe Dzaase has categorically rejected Bernard Botchway’s assertions, who is also referred to as Nortse Nii Nortey Owuo IV, that he is the Osu Mantse.
In a declaration made on February 15, 2025, the acknowledged kingmakers of the Osu Stool warned government representatives, diplomats, and the public not to engage with Botchway in any official role as Osu Mantse, since he has not been installed by the rightful authority.
“He has respected the law and refrained from overstepping the restraining order placed by the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs,” the statement noted. In contrast, Bernard Botchway has continued to disregard the court’s directive, which has resulted in contempt proceedings against him at the High Court in Accra.
“He is fond of securing photo opportunities with politicians, diplomats, and influential figures to create an illusion of legitimacy,” the statement alleged.
As per the Dzaase, it seems that Botchway’s actions are driven by political motives, as he is said to have used his ties with individuals from the former NPP government to strengthen his assertion.
“Adumuah has been suspended and dismissed as Oshiahene of Osu Kinkawe, yet he continues to act in defiance of our traditional and legal structures,” the Dzaase asserted.
The kingmakers reaffirmed that, as per the directive of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, all authority over the Osu Traditional Area and Stool is vested in the Osu Kinkawe Dzaase under the leadership of its head, Nii Saban Atsen VII.
They urged political leaders, diplomats, businesses, and the public to exercise caution in their dealings with Bernard Botchway and Ishmael Nortey Adumuah, stressing that neither has any legitimate claim to Osu chieftaincy.
