NATIONAL SECURITY OPERATIVES DISCOVER ECG METERS IN ABANDONED BUILDING, CABLES IN BUSH

Security workers in the Western Region discovered a large stash of ECG equipment in two locations in Kansaworado, part of Sekondi-Takoradi.

This was part of an ongoing search for more than 1,300 missing ECG containers that vanished at Tema Port.

In an unfinished building, they found seven large drums containing fibre and aluminium cables hidden on the site.

They also uncovered about 100 boxes of single-phase meter enclosures and several packs of electrical switches along with other tools.

An investigation by 3News showed that MBH Power had released this equipment to Hegmic Co. Ltd for electrification work under ECG’s Loss Reduction Programme, also known as LRP.

Lartey, who supervises at MBH Power, confirmed during questioning that his company had all the necessary paperwork for these items.

“I have documentation for this. We started this project around August 2023”

When asked about oversight, Mr Lartey stated,

“We have the District Technical Officers, the District Managers, and the Regional Manager of the ECG being aware of this.”

At another location, an empty piece of land near a private house, officials discovered a stash of materials.

They found 41 full drums of aluminum cables, five used cables, as well as bundles of angle iron bars, all abandoned in the bushes.

The identity of the landowner and the person who placed these materials there is unknown.

Hashem Tanko Nuhu from National Security stated that these items have been confiscated to allow for further investigation into the matter.

“Our Regional National Security Coordinator will call our head office in Accra for further instructions. We will call ECG to the table. As of now, nobody has owned up to this.

We’ve spoken to some residents here, but they seem not to know the actual owners of the items. We are yet to even establish who owns this parcel of land”

Regarding MBH Power, Mr Nuhu expressed dissatisfaction with the supervisor’s explanations, noting

“The problem we have is how those items got to a private residence.”
