24-HOUR ECONOMY PROGRAMME IS A NATIONAL RESET – Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has launched the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, a transformative economic policy to revive Ghana’s economy.
The policy, according to Mahama, is a daring and well-thought-out strategy required to break down the silos of earlier policies.
“The 24hour plus programme is that collective answer. And so we have moved from to slogan to strategy today.
“This launch is not the end but a beginning of a national mobilization,” he stated.
He emphasised that with well-planned, multi-sectoral, and inclusive interventions, the 24-hour program offers the chance to boost productivity and increase exports in addition to expanding working hours.
The program, a signature project of the administration of John Mahama, aims to re-engineer the productivity architecture of the nation by merging important industries into a seamless value chain and expanding economic activity beyond regular business hours.
The government is spending between $300 million and $400 million as seed capital to close viability gaps and encourage private sector participation, with a total estimated cost of $4 billion.
The 24H+ program aims to create 1.7 million high-quality jobs in four years and is positioned as a national economic agenda.
It focuses on key value chains in manufacturing, logistics, textiles, medicines, infrastructure, and agriculture.
