BRYAN ACHEAMPONG’S PROPERTY DOCUMENTS SECURES GH₵50M BAIL FOR WONTUMI

Lead counsel Appiah-Kubi revealed that Acheampong submitted property documentation surpassing the bail value required by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

“I’m very grateful to Honourable Bryan Acheampong… He has brought his documents, which go over and above the value of money that is required,” Mr Appiah-Kubi stated.

Chairman Wontumi, who faces allegations of fraud and money laundering, was arrested and detained earlier this week.

Although bail conditions—two sureties justified—have now been met, his release has been delayed due to a fresh court application filed by unknown persons.

“It is an application that was not filed by my good self… It prohibits us. We’ll deal with it on Monday,” the lawyer added.

Mr Appiah-Kubi also dismissed rumours of a hunger strike, assuring that Wontumi’s health is stable and he is receiving medical attention.

The case has sparked political interest, with visits from top New Patriotic Party figures, including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and crowds of supporters gathering at EOCO headquarters.

Until the new legal challenge is addressed, Wontumi remains in EOCO custody.
