BULLETS WILL NOT BREAK US – Lands Ministry Vows Relentless War On Galamsey After NAIMOS Officer Shot

Despite a violent attack on National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) staff that left one officer injured and an armed attacker dead, the Lands Ministry says it will not back down in the fight against illegal mining.
One of the task force members was shot in the thigh during a routine anti-galamsey operation in the Bono Region, according to a statement released by NAIMOS on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in a thicket along the Subinkurom–Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality.
According to the statement, the task force came under surprise attack when armed men, who had been hiding in the bushes, opened fire upon sighting the officers.
This triggered an exchange of gunfire, during which the NAIMOS officer was injured.
The wounded staff member was sent to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he is presently being treated.
One of the armed attackers was shot during the altercation. When he arrived at the same hospital, he was declared dead and subsequently identified as Abuu Ibrahim.
The Ministry underscored that the violence will not stop existing operations while acknowledging the increasing risks faced by personnel on the front lines of the anti-galamsey campaign through NAIMOS.
“Despite the persistent attacks and disruptions, [NAIMOS] remains committed to fighting the scourge of illegal mining,” the statement said.
